This FAQ is for the Video Shorts mobile app beta for WHP, WPDE, and WZTV, which uses automatically produced vertical videos created from each station’s live broadcasts.

This is separate from the Video Shorts beta currently in use at other stations that uses selected YouTube videos.

What is Video Shorts?

Video Shorts is a short-form vertical video experience in the mobile app.

This beta is a Video Shorts experience using automatically produced videos to evaluate a more automated path for creating mobile-first video content.

Which stations are included in this beta?

The initial beta stations are WHP, WPDE, WZTV

How are Video Shorts generated?

Video Shorts in this release are automatically created from each station’s live broadcasts. The clips are generated through our video automation partner, Amagi, ingested into StoryLine, and then displayed in the mobile app.

Does the system wait until the broadcast ends before creating Video Shorts?

No. Amagi monitors live broadcasts in real time, so Video Shorts may begin generating while the newscast is still in progress.

Vertical videos are generated approximately 20 minutes after a storyline ends within the source newscast. Once the videos are marked “Ready to Post” in Newspulse, they become available through the MRSS feed and are ready to be ingested into StoryLine.

StoryLine ingests videos every 30 minutes, so stations may see new Video Shorts during the broadcast as well as shortly after the scheduled broadcast ends.

What criteria are used to determine which segments become Video Shorts?

Video Shorts uses AI-assisted automation to identify potential segments from broadcasts and generate verticalized clips. Because this is an automated workflow, clip selection and cut points may not be perfect in every case, especially during the initial beta release.

Station feedback on the clips being generated will help the team understand whether the right segments are being selected, whether cut points feel accurate, and whether any clips should have been handled differently. This feedback will help us work with Amagi to refine the clipping logic over time.

Are clips created from every broadcast?

Based on the current workflow, clips are expected to be generated from broadcasts carried on the station’s regular livestream feed. Clips are not expected to be generated from event streams.

We will update this FAQ if additional broadcast or daypart rules are confirmed during the beta.

If the same segment airs more than once, could it appear in Video Shorts more than once?

This is still being confirmed. If the same segment airs more than once, it may be possible for similar clips to be generated more than once. Stations should remove any duplicate or unwanted clips from StoryLine and contact Support if duplicate clips become a recurring issue.

Why might producers see Video Shorts in StoryLine?

Video Shorts are ingested into StoryLine as part of the workflow before being displayed in the mobile app. Producers will see these vertical videos in StoryLine once the feature is enabled.

Where will users see Video Shorts?

Users will see Video Shorts in the iOS and Android mobile apps for participating beta stations.

Is this available on web?

No, the Video Shorts experience is exclusive to the mobile app.

Will producers see Video Shorts videos in StoryLine?

Yes. Video Shorts videos appear in StoryLine Media once the feature is enabled.

Should producers edit Video Shorts videos in StoryLine?

No. During the beta period, producers should avoid editing, clipping, or attaching these vertical videos to regular stories.

During the beta, these videos should be used only within the Video Shorts mobile app experience.

Can producers attach Video Shorts videos to regular stories?

No. During the beta, stations should avoid attaching Video Shorts videos to regular stories.

While the videos may technically be available in StoryLine, they are intended for the Video Shorts mobile app experience only, not to be included in stories.

Can producers clip or repurpose Video Shorts videos for other uses?

No. During the beta, stations should avoid clipping, editing, or repurposing Video Shorts videos outside of the Video Shorts mobile app experience.

How can a producer remove a video from the Video Shorts experience?

To remove a video from the Video Shorts experience:

1. Open Media Library in StoryLine.
2. Search by the video title.
3. Apply the All Media filter.
4. Select Remove to delete the video.

If the video is being removed because of an issue with how it was automatically produced — such as the wrong segment being selected, awkward clipping, caption issues, incorrect framing, or another quality concern — please contact Support with the details so the team can review the issue with the product and automation teams.

• Approximate time the video appeared
• Description of the issue
• Screenshot or link, if available

If the video is being removed because the station simply does not want that clip included in the Video Shorts experience, no additional follow-up is needed unless the station wants to share feedback.

How long does it take for a removed video to disappear from the Video Shorts experience?

Timing may vary. After a video is removed in StoryLine, please allow time for the change to be reflected in the mobile app. If the video continues to appear after removal, contact Support with the station, video title, and approximate time it was removed.

How should stations provide feedback during the beta?

Please contact Support with any questions, issues, or examples of clips that appear incorrect, duplicated, poorly cut, or inappropriate for the Video Shorts experience.

Will this be rolled out to more stations?

The team will monitor the release, review feedback, and determine next steps before any broader rollout.
